Napoli's Camilo Zuniga criticizes club for lack of playing time

Colombian international Juan Camilo Zuniga is on the wrong side looking in at Napoli, as the oft-injured full-back gave an unauthorized interview to a Colombian paper criticizing his perpetual exclusion from Maurizio Sarri's squad.

Zuniga, who joined Napoli in 2009 from Siena, has made 127 Serie A appearances, though he's only appeared in 13 league matches since the start of the 2013-14 season, nursing several injuries, including the knee ailment that's kept him out since April 12.

"I'm training, but I'm not playing because I'm not being considered by the coaching staff or the club. It is all so strange what is happening because I am fit, but I don't even get to sit on the bench," Zuniga told El Tiempo, courtesy of ESPN FC. "It's not the coach's decision either because he's new here. I work hard all week to give the team a hand, but then I never get selected."

Apparently not afraid to place the blame on others, Zuniga is quick to point out that he was fit for his national team's efforts this summer.

"I played at the Copa America and was perfectly fine. If I'm not playing for Napoli, it is because of the club. It's an uncomfortable moment. I can't wait to play again."

Despite his desire to play, the 29-year-old may have to wait until the holiday transfer window opens in January to do so with another club.

"I've spoken to our sporting director and he, like me, is waiting for the January transfer window to open," Zuniga said. "But the thing is, if they want to sell me in January, it's strange that they don't let me play now. It's easier for them to sell me if I'm playing."
