New York City FC's newest Designated Player has left for New York, poised to make his MLS debut with the expansion club.

Ex-Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo took the next step in his illustrious career Tuesday, as documented by NYCFC's official Twitter account.

Pirlo joins NYCFC as its third Designated Player, following fellow stars David Villa and Frank Lampard onto the pitch at Yankee Stadium. Pirlo is expected to detail plans for his debut with the club at a press conference Thursday.

Ex-Chelsea legend Lampard has yet to play in his first match, sidelined with a calf strain, while World Cup winner Villa has been one of the league's most potent goal scorers, netting 10 goals for the club.
