Kevin-Prince Boateng confirms stunning move: 'Barca, I'm coming'
Barcelona are close to signing Sassuolo forward Kevin-Prince Boateng on loan with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season for €8 million, reports The Guardian's Fabrizio Romano and Ed Aarons.
Boateng later appeared to confirm the pending switch in an airport interview with Romano and Sky Sport Italia, though neither Sassuolo nor Barcelona have released an official statement announcing the deal.
"Barca, I'm coming!" he said, according to Romano. "I'm sad to leave Sassuolo but is a great chance."
Romano and Aarons note the reigning La Liga champions were supposedly intrigued by Boateng's ability to play as a false nine, though it's unclear if he would assume the same role in Barcelona's lineup.
Boateng joined the Neroverdi over the summer after a year with Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt. The Ghana international has scored four goals in 13 Serie A matches this season with Sassuolo, though he missed three weeks in December with a groin strain.
A move to Barcelona would also return the 31-year-old to La Liga. Boateng spent the 2016-17 campaign with Canarian club Las Palmas, though his contract was terminated at season's end by mutual consent.
