Report: Tottenham can extend Lamela's contract amid Italian interest
Tottenham Hotspur possesses an option to extend Erik Lamela's contract until 2020, therefore adding greater security to his terms amid links to Serie A outfits, according to the Guardian's David Hynter.
Lamela signed a four-year contract when he joined from Roma for £30 million in August 2013, and the club exercised a two-year extension at the end of that deal, tying him down to his current agreement until the end of the 2018-19 season.
It has emerged shrewd chairman Daniel Levy included yet another option in the paperwork that gives Spurs the ability to extend Lamela's stay by a further 12 months. Considering the repeated rumours that the Argentinian midfielder is pondering a return to Italy - Inter headlines a group of Serie A luminaries reportedly interested in his signature - Tottenham lengthening his association with the club appears a distinct possibility.
Lamela's career hit the buffers when he succumbed to a hip injury that sidelined him for 13 months following a League Cup substitute appearance in October 2016. His reintroduction into the Tottenham fold has been gradual since his cameo at Leicester City in November, but he helped inspire a dominant midfield display when selected ahead of Heung-Min Son in Tuesday's 2-2 draw at Juventus.
