Report: Arsenal eyeing £25M deal for Inter's Mauro Icardi
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is apparently preparing to fight off a number of clubs as he explores the option of bringing £25-million Mauro Icardi to north London.
The Inter Milan striker has endured an at-times fractious relationship with boss Roberto Mancini this season, but has still tallied seven goals in his last 13 appearances. It's enough to encourage Wenger to consider the 23-year-old as a potential part of what The Daily Mirror's John Cross anticipates will be a "shake up" of the Arsenal squad this summer.
It's believed that he's also highlighted Juventus' Alvaro Morata as another target to bolster his forward line, but the strikeforce is just one of four positions that require strengthening when the transfer window swings open.
A replacement for second-choice goalkeeper David Ospina - who's linked with transfers to Besiktas, Everton, and a host of French clubs - should be required, as will additional options in defence and midfield.
Atletico Madrid's Lucas Hernandez, Leicester City's Ben Chilwell, and Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon are among the youthful defensive ranks linked with Arsenal, but further up the pitch it appears more experienced players are being sighted, with Borussia Monchengladbach's Granit Xhaka and Borussia Dortmund's Henrikh Mkhitaryan targeted.
The first task for Wenger is to secure Champions League football for next season, with his side facing Manchester City - who's just three points short in fourth - in Sunday's Premier League fixtures.
