The Los Angeles Angels acquired right-hander Luis García and left-hander Andrew Chafin from the Washington Nationals for first baseman Sam Brown and left-hander Jake Eder, the teams announced Wednesday.

Left-hander José Quijada was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

García, 38, joins the Angels for the third time in his career. He posted a 0.90 ERA in 10 appearances with the Nationals, with whom he signed in early July after being released by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Meanwhile, the 35-year-old Chafin owns a 2.70 ERA and 3.75 FIP in 26 outings this season after signing with Washington in May.

Brown, 23, was a 12th-round pick by the Angels in 2023. The Washington State alum posted a .708 OPS with 40 RBIs in 363 plate appearances for Double-A Rocket City this season.

The 26-year-old Eder has nine games of big-league experience in which he's recorded a 4.87 ERA in 20 1/3 innings.

The Angels entered Wednesday four games out of a playoff spot with a 4.9% chance of making the postseason, according to FanGraphs.
