Royals' Ragans lands on IL with rotator cuff strain
The Kansas City Royals placed ace Cole Ragans on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a strained rotator cuff in his left shoulder.
Royals manager Matt Quatraro said the team is still waiting for tests to come back before determining the severity of Ragans' injury and recovery timetable, according to Anne Rogers of MLB.com.
Ragans hasn't pitched since June 5 when he only lasted three innings in a rough start against the St. Louis Cardinals. It was his first outing after returning from his second groin injury of the season.
The 27-year-old has logged 48 2/3 innings (10 starts) in 2025 after recording a career-high 186 1/3 innings (32 starts) during a 2024 All-Star campaign that saw him finish fourth in AL Cy Young voting.
Ragans owns a 5.18 ERA with 2.40 FIP and 14.1 K/9 this season.
The Royals also reinstated reliever Lucas Erceg, recalled right-hander Jonathan Bowlan, and designated pitcher Trevor Richards for assignment.
