The New York Rangers are among the teams trying to acquire Buffalo Sabres winger JJ Peterka, reports The Buffalo News' Lance Lysowski.

The two sides held advanced discussions, sources told Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli.

Peterka has been a hot name on the rumor mill despite youth and production that would seemingly make him a desirable asset for a team looking ahead to next year like the Sabres are. Buffalo sits last in the Eastern Conference.

The 23-year-old German has recorded 19 goals and 32 assists in 59 games this season. He potted a career-high 28 goals last season.

Buffalo drafted Peterka 34th overall in 2020. He's playing out the final year of his entry-level contract but is under team control until 2029.

The Rangers have been one of the more aggressive teams on the trade market this season. They've made six notable deals since December, including a pair of moves Thursday.
