Carr appreciates Saints' hot start: 'It's hard to score that many times'

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr isn't taking his team's explosive offensive output for granted.

"You see the stats, you see the numbers out there for the whole offense and where it's been in history and all that kind of stuff, and it's cool," Carr said, according to team reporter John DeShazier. "But at the same time, it doesn't mean anything this week."

He added: "It's hard to score that many times in this league. Obviously, you want to continue to do that. You want to keep putting pressure on defenses and things like that."

After routing both the Carolina Panthers (47-10) and Dallas Cowboys (44-19) with 91 combined points, the 2024 Saints sit behind only New Orleans' 2009 team (93) for most points scored after the first two games since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger. The club will look to continue its success against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3.

The Saints have flourished with the addition of offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. Implementing his system seems to have been effective: New Orleans averages a league-leading 45.5 points per game while adding 405.5 total yards per contest. Alvin Kamara and Rashid Shaheed have been particularly productive, with seven total touchdowns between them.

Carr is thriving in his second season with the franchise after delivering an uneven performance in 2023. The four-time Pro Bowler has completed 30 of 39 attempts for 443 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception with a 76.9% completion percentage to start his 2024 campaign.

The impressive effort from the Saints' offense arrives after the team finished the 2023 season with a 9-8 record and missed the playoffs. The ability to produce big chunk plays - like the three touchdown passes over 50 yards the team has completed through two games - eluded New Orleans' offense a year ago.
