The Milwaukee Brewers traded outfielder/first baseman Mark Canha to the Detroit Tigers for minor-league right-hander Blake Holub, the team announced on Saturday.

Canha's contract has an $11.5-million team option for 2024. Detroit is expected to exercise the option, according to the Detroit News' Chris McCosky.

"One of our goals for the offseason was to add a right-handed bat who could help us on and off the field," Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris said, according to the Detroit Free Press' Evan Petzold.

"On the field, Mark is an on-base machine. He goes up to the plate with a plan. ... He immediately makes us better that way."

The 34-year-old finished the 2023 campaign with the Brewers, appearing in 50 games after being traded from the New York Mets. With Milwaukee, Canha slashed .287/.373/.427 with five homers and 33 RBIs.

Canha has been one of the better players in baseball by on-base percentage since 2019, posting a .370 mark. That should help a Tigers club that ranked 26th in OBP last season.

Holub, 25, appeared in 48 games across two minor-league levels last season. The former 15th-round draft choice struck out 76 in 65 1/3 innings. He wasn't ranked among the Tigers' top 30 prospects, according to MLB Pipeline.
