The Texas Rangers designated Khris Davis for assignment Tuesday, team executive vice president of communications John Blake announced.

Davis, who was traded to the Rangers in February in a deal that saw Elvis Andrus head to the Oakland Athletics, slashed .157/.262/.333 with two home runs over 22 games in Texas.

The 33-year-old designated hitter registered 40-plus homers in three straight years between 2016-18, including an MLB-leading 48 round-trippers in 2018. However, the slugger went deep 27 times with a .665 OPS over his last 185 games since that memorable campaign.

Davis is still owed $16.75 million in 2021 and eligible for free agency at the end of the year.
