The Philadelphia Phillies are stepping up to try and keep J.T. Realmuto in the fold.

Philadelphia has made the All-Star catcher a new contract offer in the five-year range and worth a little over $100 million, an industry source told Jayson Stark of The Athletic.

Realmuto met with Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski over Christmas in Oklahoma, the executive confirmed. The latest offer was extended within the last week, a source told Stark.

"We continue to have interest in J.T.," Dombrowski said in a statement to Stark. "But from a negotiating standpoint, these are things that have to be kept private."

Realmuto spent the last two seasons in Philadelphia and became a free agent after rejecting the Phillies' qualifying offer in November. The sides had started to negotiate an extension last March before talks were halted by the pandemic stoppage.

The 29-year-old posted a .825 OPS with 36 homers over his two years with the Phillies, making an All-Star appearance and winning both a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger in 2019.

Other teams thought to be in the mix for Realmuto include the Toronto Blue Jays and Washington Nationals. The Los Angeles Angels had interest before reportedly signing veteran catcher Kurt Suzuki on Friday.
