Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar and Liverpool shot-stopper Alisson are among a host of Brazilian players and coaches who've helped raise money for families suffering financially amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

A collection of 57 players and staff that also includes ex-Barcelona full-back Dani Alves pledged 2.5 million Brazilian reais (£375,632), an amount that was matched by the country's football federation (CBF), according to Reuters.

"In difficult times like these, lots of families need help; our help," Neymar said in a video posted on the CBF website.

CBF president Rogerio Caboclo said the money will be distributed among three groups working in Brazil's poverty-stricken favelas, per Reuters. He adds that accountants EY will oversee the delivery of funds at no cost and that the money will provide sanitary products and food for 32,000 families over a two-month span.

Other Brazilian footballing luminaries like Dunga, Zico, and Paulo Roberto Falcao have also raised millions through their own individual charitable endeavors.

The coronavirus has hit Brazil harder than any other South American nation. The country has confirmed 3,079 positive cases and 2,741 fatalities.
