Ex-Astros slugger Gattis takes shot at whistle-blower Fiers on Twitter

Mike Fiers blew the whistle on the Astros' illegal sign-stealing scheme to kick-start one of the biggest scandals in baseball history, and at least one of his former Houston teammates is still unhappy about it.

Former Astros catcher Evan Gattis appeared to send a message to Fiers on Friday. Gattis tweeted out an image of a glass he bought with Fiers' face on it and the words "snitches get stitches" underneath.

The glass in question was manufactured by Houston restaurant The Flying Saucer. The restaurant tweeted earlier in the day that it had sold out of the glass, with Gattis purchasing the last one.

Although he hasn't played in the majors since 2018, Gattis is one of the first players directly involved in the scandal to publicly express some form of malice against Fiers. The right-hander's decision to spill the beans on his former team was criticized by some in baseball, including Hall of Fame pitcher Pedro Martinez and ESPN analyst Jessica Mendoza.

Fiers, who now pitches for the Oakland Athletics, claimed last month he received death threats.

Gattis, 33, spent four of his six big-league seasons with the Astros and was teammates with Fiers for three of them. During their championship season of 2017 he appeared in 84 games and hit .263/.311/.457 with 12 homers and 55 RBIs; in the 2017 World Series, Gattis recorded three hits and five walks across 15 plate appearances.

Fiers had a 6.23 ERA during eight starts with Gattis as his catcher in 2017.
