Thiago Motta was handed his first managerial job in senior football on Tuesday after being chosen to succeed Aurelio Andreazzoli at Genoa.

Andreazzoli was fired earlier in the day after winning just one of his eight league matches at the helm.

Motta, 37, oversaw Paris Saint-Germain's Under-19 side for a short period before his hire and will be immediately tasked with lifting Genoa from their lowly standing of second-bottom in Serie A.

The former midfielder played for Genoa during the 2008-09 campaign before moving to Inter for three seasons and collecting a Scudetto and Champions League title.

He also enjoyed trophy-laden stints with Barcelona and PSG during his playing career.

Motta's Genoa reign begins this Saturday with a visit from league newcomers Brescia.
