The San Francisco 49ers will place rookie running back Joe Williams on injured reserve, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The fourth-round selection picked up an ankle injury during the preseason. His injury could open the door for both Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert to make the team.

Williams carried the ball 25 times during the preseason for 130 yards.
