Report: Quickley, 2 Hornets out of Team USA camp due to COVID-19 protocols
New York Knicks guard Immanuel Quickley and Charlotte Hornets duo P.J. Washington and Miles Bridges are out of Team USA's training camp in Las Vegas due to COVID-19 protocols, sources told ESPN's Brian Windhorst.
The three were a part of the Select Team, which is training with Team USA's main squad as it prepares for the Tokyo Olympics.
Team USA head coach Gregg Popovich confirmed that three members of the Select Team tested positive for COVID-19 but did not specify who, according to Joe Vardon of The Athletic. Popovich added no one on the Olympic squad has tested positive.
Their exits add to a difficult 24 hours for the Select Team roster. On Wednesday, Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards reportedly sprained his ankle during a practice session and will miss the rest of camp; Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart suffered an ankle injury on Thursday while playing against the main Team USA squad and had to leave the scrimmage to receive treatment, Windhorst reports.
The Select Team features 17 rising talents with all but two already in the NBA and is being coached by Miami Heat bench boss Erik Spoelstra.
Team USA will train at the UNLV campus until July 18 and will compete against Nigeria, Australia, Argentina, and Spain in exhibition contests. It will face France in its first game of the Olympics tournament on July 25.
