All told, Bowman - who began his coaching career with the St. Louis Blues back in 1967 - built his reputation as the game's greatest coach on a vast array of accomplishments, listed briefly here:
- NHL's all-time coaching leader with 2,141 games, 1,244 regular-season wins, and 223 playoff victories.
- Nine Stanley Cup wins as a head coach: Montreal Canadiens (1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979), Pittsburgh Penguins (1992), and Detroit Red Wings (1997, 1998, 2002).
- Member of an additional five Cup champions as an executive: director of player development for the 1991 Penguins, consultant for the 2008 Red Wings, current role with the 2010, 2013, and 2015 Blackhawks.
- Two Jack Adams Trophies (1977, 1996).
- Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a builder in 1991.
Happy birthday, Mr. Bowman!
