It's time to shake things up.

The Washington Capitals, who lost in the second round of the postseason to the New York Rangers after a tightly contested series, could lose two of their players to free agency.

Chuck Gormley of CSN Washington reports that the agent who represents Capitals defenseman Mike Green and forward Eric Fehr says his clients will not return to the team next season.

"The Capitals have been open and transparent and honest and I think both players were clear in terms of their willingness and intention to stay if it was going to make sense," agent Craig Oster told Gormley.

"It’s a function of where the Capitals are as an organization, changes that have been made there and the salary cap as to why they weren’t in a position to do much more than they were. At the end of the day, it’s a decision by them as to how they make their best team and based on all the factors it wasn’t going to work out for Mike or Eric or the organization and both sides will continue to move on."

The news about Green comes as a surprise as he stated that free agency "scares the (heck) out of me" in May and even said last season's Capitals squad was the best he had ever played for.

Green, 29, earned 45 points in 72 regular-season contests and added another two points in 14 postseason appearances. The defenseman earned $6.25 million last season.

Fehr, also 29, potted 19 goals and added 14 assists in 75 games for the Capitals and only managed to appear in four postseason contests due to an upper-body injury. The forward earned $1.6 million last season.
