Capitals' Green scared of hitting free agency for 1st time
The Washington Capitals are leading their second-round playoff series against the New York Rangers, but that doesn't mean that defenseman Mike Green isn't thinking about his future after the postseason.
The 29-year-old, who has spent his entire career with the Capitals, is set to become an unrestricted free agent, and the idea of hitting the open market scares him.
"Excuse my language," he told Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post. "It scares the (heck) out of me."
Green has witnessed a different team this season under head coach Barry Trotz and even suggested in April that this was the best Capitals team he's ever played on.
"You don't always get that every year because of different circumstances, the emotional roller coaster that you're on during certain years, things don't go as well," Green said. "But we've done it together. It wasn't just ... we go through the motions, we're a talented team, we'll get by. We worked hard together. That’s kind of cool."
Washington, who finished the regular season with 101 points, host the Rangers on Wednesday.
