Chicago Blackhawks forward Michal Handzus is set to reach a significant career milestone Wednesday, as the 37-year old will play in his 1,000th career game at home against the St. Louis Blues.
Selected in the fourth round by those same Blues back in 1995, Handzus has played for St. Louis, the Phoenix Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks and Blackhawks, and has scored 185 goals and added 295 assists.
He finished second to Steve Yzerman in the 2000 Selke Trophy race, and won his first Stanley Cup with Chicago last season.
Handzus becomes the 31st active player and just the sixth Slovakian all-time to hit 1,000 games, and will be presented with an original portrait prior to Wednesday's faceoff.
