The Carolina Hurricanes are set to play without their leading goal scorer for an extended period.

Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour announced Seth Jarvis was injured against the Florida Panthers while crashing into the post after being tripped by Evan Rodrigues in overtime.

"It's not good," Brind'Amour said after Friday's 4-3 loss. "He's going to be out for a while."

Jarvis lay on the ice after colliding with the net and appeared to be favoring his left arm and midsection. No penalty was called on the play.

Jarvis entered the night with a team-leading 19 goals in 34 games. His 27 points are the second-most on the Hurricanes.

The 23-year-old has registered back-to-back 30-goal seasons.

Despite the loss, Carolina leads the Metropolitan division by five points over the Washington Capitals.
