Capitals' Wilson injured in Game 1 vs. Panthers
Capitals forward Tom Wilson is still being evaluated after suffering a lower-body injury in Game 1 of Washington's first-round matchup against the Florida Panthers, head coach Peter Laviolette said postgame, per the Washington Post's Samantha Pell.
Wilson opened the scoring with a power-play marker in the first period of the Capitals' 4-2 upset victory. However, he appeared to take the brunt of the impact along the boards while attempting to hit Panthers defenseman MacKenzie Weegar before exiting the contest after playing just 1:31.
Wilson came out of the tunnel during the second period and took a couple of laps during a television timeout but ultimately left again.
The 28-year-old is a key player for the Capitals. His tally Tuesday night was his 14th career playoff goal and his sixth straight postseason game with a marker, according to Capitals PR.
Wilson sparkled for Washington in the regular season, logging a career-high 24 goals and 28 assists in 78 contests.
