The New Jersey Devils signed goaltender Jonathan Bernier to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $4.125 million, the team announced Wednesday.

Bernier's rights were previously acquired by the Carolina Hurricanes from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic. Bernier spent the last three seasons in Detroit.

The 32-year-old was one of the lone bright spots on Detroit's roster for the last few years during the team's rebuild. Despite the Red Wings' poor performance on the ice and a lackluster roster playing in front of him, Bernier managed to put up decent numbers.

Over the last three campaigns, Bernier posted a .908 save percentage and 3.02 goals-against average.
