Nashville Predators forward Wayne Simmonds took home the Mark Messier Leadership Award given "to the player who exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team, on and off the ice during the regular season."
Simmonds edged out Calgary Flames captain Mark Giordano and Carolina Hurricanes captain Justin Williams.
The 30-year-old split his season between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Predators, tallying 17 goals and 30 points in 79 games.
Simmonds is a pending unrestricted free agent, but as evidenced by this award, whichever team signs him will be getting a true character player and a valuable locker room presence.
