Connor Cook

Position: QB
School: Michigan State
College Experience: Senior
Height: 6-4
Weight: 215 lbs.
Age: 23

NFL player comparison: Andy Dalton

Cook, like Dalton coming out of college, possesses good-but-not-great arm strength and mobility. Dalton's accuracy and consistency have improved during his time in the NFL, but he remains a streaky player that can look like a franchise passer one game, and a backup the next. Cook shares Dalton's occasionally over-aggressive mentality and inconsistencies, although Dalton is much more accurate passer than Cook has proven to be.

Draft Projection: Round 3-4

Strengths

  • Showcases ability to read field and quickly move through progressions.
  • Stands strong in the pocket, willing to take a hit.
  • Has experience playing both under center and in the shotgun.
  • Can make spectacular, NFL-level throws, but are too rare.
  • Possesses solid athletic ability, not a rusher, but can scramble and make plays outside the pocket.

Weaknesses

  • Inconsistent accuracy on the run.
  • Can look onto first read, clearly telegraphs some passes.
  • Has character concerns, including lack of leadership (Cook was never voted team captain in college).
  • Poor ball placement, especially on outside throws.
  • Mechanics can sometimes break down when pressured, causing wild throws.
  • Too often forces throws to receivers who are clearly covered.
