Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

Get an in-depth look at the top prospects in this year's draft class leading up to the NFL draft, which takes place April 28-30 in Chicago.

Vonn Bell Bio

Position: CB
School: Ohio State
College Experience: Junior
Height: 5-11
Weight: 205 lbs.

NFL player comparison: Devin McCourty

Bell's excellent ball skills and versatility to play either safety or cornerback renders him eerily reminiscent of New England's Devin McCourty. With an ability to elevate his game when the stakes are at their highest, Bell's competitiveness and diagnostic ability will make him a first-round pick. Bell will only turn 22 in December and with teams employing five defensive back sets routinely, his tremendous ball skills and intelligence will resonate with scouts.

Draft projection: Round 1 (top 30 overall)

Strengths

  • Displays excellent ball skills and has a propensity for interceptions when the ball is in his general vicinity.
  • Elevated his performance against top-caliber teams and shows an innately high level of competitiveness.
  • Reacts quickly after the snap and takes excellent, precise routes to the ball carrier.
  • Although he's not the most powerful player, uses good technique to bring down ball carriers.
  • Sports the versatility to play nickel cornerback or safety in the NFL.

Weaknesses

  • Lacks ideal size for an NFL safety and has average straight-line speed.
  • Needs to work on hip rotations to adjust to downfield routes and double moves.
