Report: Patriots acquire OT Michael Williams from Lions
Andrew Weber / USA TODAY Sports
The Detroit Lions have traded offensive tackle Michael Williams to the New England Patriots, according to multiple reports.
Field Yates of ESPN cites a source reporting the compensation heading back to the Lions is a seventh-round pick. The deal is pending a physical, reports Kyle Meinke of Mlive.com.
Williams was drafted by the Lions in the seventh round of the 2013 draft as a tight end. He was converted to tackle and performed admirably in training camp, earning looks with the first-team offense because of injuries.
The Patriots tried to claim Williams off the Lions' practice squad in 2014, but he was offered a salary increase to stay.
