Cardinals, Chris Johnson agree to 1-year contract
Free-agent running back Chris Johnson and the Arizona Cardinals agreed to terms on a one-year contract, the team announced Monday.
Although the team did not release financial details, the deal is reportedly worth up to $2 million, according to NFL.com's Rand Getlin.
Head coach Bruce Arians confirmed Johnson passed a physical earlier Monday, paving the way for the Cardinals to add the veteran to a position group that includes Andre Ellington and David Johnson.
"CJ2K" spent last season with the New York Jets after playing the first six years of his career with the Tennessee Titans. He rushed for 663 yards and one touchdown on 155 carries.
Once the league's marquee running back, Johnson has seen his production decline steadily since his 2,000-yard season in 2009. A dual threat able to catch the ball out of the backfield, Johnson will add some much-needed depth to the Cardinals' banged-up and inexperienced group of ball carriers.
