Bears sign Daniel Thomas, Sherrod Martin
The Chicago Bears worked out former Miami Dolphins running back Daniel Thomas on Thursday and must have liked what they saw. The team signed Thomas shortly after the tryout.
Thomas spent his first four seasons with the Dolphins but failed to earn consistent playing time. Though he has good size at 6-foot-1 and 235 pounds, he runs soft and has battled fumbling issues.
Thomas never topped 3.8 yards per carry in any of those seasons with the Dolphins, and never rushed for more than 581 yards. He probably faces an uphill battle in making the Bears' 53-man roster.
The Bears also signed safety Sherrod Martin on Thursday. Martin played in 13 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season, recording two interceptions.
To make room for the signings, the Bears waived kicker Jeremiah Detmer, quarterback Pat Devlin, and tight end Jacob Maxwell.
