Report: Patriots cut Tim Wright

The New England Patriots released tight end Tim Wright on Thursday, FOX Sports' Mike Garafolo reports.

Wright will be subject to waivers.

Wright was acquired, along with a fourth-round pick, from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for veteran guard Logan Mankins last August. The pass-catching tight end appeared in 16 games and caught 26 passes for 259 yards and six touchdowns.

Wright's usage declined as the season wore on and he was used exceedingly sparingly in the playoffs, being on the field for only three snaps in the Divisional Round and not seeing a pass target in the Super Bowl.
