The Detroit Lions have selected running back Ameer Abdullah out of Nebraska in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Abdullah joins a backfield that lost Reggie Bush this offseason, but still possesses the emerging Joique Bell.
Bell is a powerful back that runs through the tackles and Abdullah, who excelled and showed his versatility at the combine, gives them a different skill set.
Abdullah will replace Bush on third downs and give them and excellent receiving option out of the backfield.

Strengths
- High-end measurables. Posted the top result among running backs at the combine in every event except for 40-yard dash and bench press.
- Very loose ankles and hips. Cuts and jukes as well as any runner in his draft class.
- Sees the hole and makes intelligent reads.
- Runs low to the ground, slipping under tackles and avoiding big hits.
- Excellent balance.
- Reliable receiver.
Weaknesses
- Smaller than other top running back prospects in his draft class. May not have the body to hold up to 15-20 carries per game.
- Ball security is often an issue.
- Limited resume as a blocker, though indications are he has the potential to become very good in pass protection.
- Not a good fit for power running schemes.
