Buccaneers to release defensive end Michael Johnson

Chuck Cook / USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are releasing defensive end Michael Johnson.

Johnson is still owed $7 million despite his release, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

According to Jenna Laine of FOX Sports, the Minnesota Vikings and Cincinnati Bengals are interested in signing Johnson.

One of the Bucs big free-agent signings ahead of last season, Johnson had just four sacks in 14 games in 2014. The team also released 2013 signees quarterback Josh McCown and left tackle Anthony Collins.

Johnson spent the first five years of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals, accumulating 26.5 sacks over that span.
