The Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly agreed to terms with free-agent running back Ryan Mathews on a three-year, $12-million contract, according to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
However, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Mathews' deal is for $11.5 million.
The 27-year-old is visiting the team Wednesday, a day after free agency official started.
The Eagles were reported to have interest in Frank Gore (who spurned the team to sign with the Indianapolis Colts) and DeMarco Murray (though the Eagles' interest was never confirmed), so perhaps Mathews is the fallback plan.
Mathews, the San Diego Chargers' 12th overall pick in 2010, struggled to stay healthy in his first five seasons as a pro and played a full slate of 16 games only once. When Mathews was on the field, however, he ran with purpose and power.
Injuries limited Mathews to six games last season when he compiled 330 rushing yards and three touchdowns while adding nine catches for 69 yards.
