Cowboys want to ease DeMarco Murray's workload
Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray is on pace for an NFL-record 416 rushing attempt this season, a number that seems unattainable for a player that has struggled to stay healthy in his brief career.
Apparently, the Cowboys agree that Murray is on a dangerous pace (he's never rushed more than 217 times in a season) and the team wants to ease his workload and get backup running backs Lance Dunbar and Joseph Randle more involved.
"DeMarco was out there (in Week 5) and we think that's probably too many carries in the game, week in and week out," Garrett said via ESPN.com. "He ended up with 31 (carries) so we'd like to get that number lower. We'd really just like to get the other guys an opportunity. I don't see any wear and tear in DeMarco but having said that, we want to make sure we create a rotation and we'll focus on doing that in the next few weeks."
Murray - an MVP candidate through five weeks of play - leads the NFL with 670 yards on the ground, 210 yards better than the next-closest competitor (Pittsburgh's Le'Veon Bell with 460).
