Former Bears GM on trading Greg Olsen: 'It was a mistake'
Jim Dedmon / USA TODAY Sports
Jerry Angelo, the general manager of the Chicago Bears from 2001-2012, said on the Kap and Haugh Show on 97.7 FM The Game, that he made a mistake trading tight end Greg Olsen to the Carolina Panthers.
It was a mistake to trade him, I understand he wasn’t the ideal fit in the scheme, but we let our best receiver go. Obviously, it was (Jay) Cutler’s favorite receiver at the time, and we let him out the door.
Olsen, the Bears' first round pick (31st overall) in 2007, has blossomed in Carolina, notching over 800 receiving yards and at least five touchdowns since the 2011 trade, in which the Bears received a 2012 third round draft pick.
Thus far this season, Olson has 21 receptions for 254 yards and two touchdowns.
