Chiefs, Jamaal Charles agree on contract extension worth a reported $18.1M over 2 years

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs confirmed their star running back would be on the field when training camp opens.

Terms were not disclosed but reports have the deal as a two-year extension with $18.1 million of new money.

The deal would keep Charles under contract for the next four seasons and make him the second-highest paid running back in the league, behind Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings.

Next up for the Chiefs is sorting out the Alex Smith contract situation
