The NFL announced Thursday that former Minnesota Vikings and Baltimore Ravens center Matt Birk has been appointed director of football development.
The six-time Pro Bowl selection will be tasked with "developing the game at all levels of the sport," as well as assisting the league's game day operations.
Birk released the following statement via NFL.com.
"I'm very excited to begin this next chapter of my football career. It's a real honor for me to be entrusted with developing the game in so many different ways."
The 2011 NFL Man of the Year concluded his 14-year career with a Super Bowl Championship in 2013. He is just the eighth former player to assume a position at the NFL office.
