Redskins urge fans to tell Senator Harry Reid they support team name
The Washington Redskins' official Twitter account jumped into the polarizing debate over the team's moniker Thursday, urging fans to tweet messages of support for the name "Redskins" to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Tweet @SenatorReid to show your #RedskinsPride and tell him what the team means to you.

Recently, Reid signed a letter endorsed by 50 senators urging the NFL to force the Redskins to choose a new team name.
It's not surprising to see the Redskins' Twitter account toe the party line here, so to speak, but there's still something distasteful about seeing an NFL team's Twitter account get political.
If there's anything positive here, it's that maybe, with the "Redskins" debate now reaching the highest levels of the U.S. government, we'll finally get a resolution to the matter.
