Report: Patriots, Texans nearing a trade involving quarterback Ryan Mallett
The Houston Texans are nearing a deal that would see the team acquire New England Patriots quarterback Ryan Mallett, Tom E. Curran of CSN New England reports.
A source tells me Ryan Mallett to the Texans may soon be done.

Nothing certain, though, as Curran says he's hearing conflicting things.
Second source says nothing doing at the moment on Mallett to Houston. We'll watch how it plays out. Makes sense if Clowney is No. 1.

Rumors of such a deal have been around for months now, but they have been shot down every time they emerged by sources close to the teams.
The Patriots drafted Mallett in the third round of the 2011 draft. He's served as Tom Brady's backup since then, but Brady doesn't appear to be going anywhere and Mallett's rookie contract will soon expire.
Should the Texans acquire Mallett, the team will almost certainly not spend a high draft pick on a quarterback.
