NFL changes flex scheduling rules, can now flex games starting in Week 5

Kyle Terada / US PRESSWIRE

The NFL wants to make sure the most compelling game of the weekend is available for all to watch in prime time on Sunday night.

As such, NFL.com's "Around The League" blog reports the league has adjusted its rules regarding flex scheduling, the process of moving locally televised Sunday afternoon games to Sunday night on national television.

In previous years, flex scheduling began in Week 11. In 2014, it will begin in Week 5.

A maximum of two games between Weeks 5-10 can be flexed, ensuring it isn't a weekly occurrence until the latter portion of the schedule.

As before, the NFL can only move Sunday afternoon games to Sunday night. Monday and Thursday games cannot be flexed.
