Eli Manning on why he didn't want to play in San Diego: 'Uh, I forgot'
On Sunday, Giants quarterback Eli Manning will make his second ever start in San Diego. Manning famously refused to play for the Chargers when they had the No. 1 pick in the 2004 NFL draft and was eventually traded to New York in a deal that also included Philip Rivers.
Even though it's been such a long time, Manning still won't say why he didn't want to play in San Diego.
"Uh, I forgot," Manning said, tongue-in-cheek, via ESPN. "I can't remember. It's been 10 years. It slipped my mind."
Whatever the reason for his decision, it's one Chargers fans still remember and Manning expects to hear about it on Sunday.
"I'm sure they'll bring it up (again)," Manning said. "I'm sure they'll do something to kind of get the fans fired up. We'll see what happens."
Manning's only other start in San Diego came back in 2005, just his second year in the league. He was 24-of-41 for 352 yards with two touchdowns but the Chargers rolled to a 45-23 victory and Manning was booed heavily throughout the game.
