Giants fire Daboll amid 2-8 season
The New York Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll after a disappointing 2-8 start to the season, the team announced Monday.
"We spoke this morning about the direction of our franchise on the field, and we have decided that, at this time, it is in our best interest to make a change at the head coaching position," president John Mara and chairman Steve Tisch said in a joint statement. "The past few seasons have been nothing short of disappointing, and we have not met our expectations for this franchise."
Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will serve as the interim coach.
General manager Joe Schoen will keep his position and lead the search for a new head coach.
Daboll's dismissal comes as the Giants are off to their third straight 2-8 start. New York squandered a 10-point lead late during Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears, allowing 14 unanswered points in the final four minutes.
Daboll compiled a 20-40-1 record in three-plus seasons with the Giants.
A former Coach of the Year winner, Daboll began his tenure in New York with a 9-7-1 record and a playoff appearance - which included a wild-card victory - in his first season in 2022. However, he failed to build on that campaign, with the team going 11-33 since.
Kafka will mark the sixth head coach for the Giants since 2016, joining Ben McAdoo, Steve Spagnuolo, Pat Shurmur, Joe Judge, and Daboll.
