Report: Chargers' Harris out for season with torn Achilles
An MRI confirmed Los Angeles Chargers running back Najee Harris tore his Achilles on Sunday and will miss the remainder of the season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Harris was carted off during Los Angeles' 23-20 win over the Denver Broncos after going down untouched in the backfield on a play in the second quarter.
Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said postgame that it was an Achilles injury, though he didn't reveal the severity.
A first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021, Harris joined the Chargers this offseason on a one-year deal in free agency. Harris' 1,112 rushing attempts since entering the league rank third most among all running backs.
He accumulated 15 carries for 61 yards this season prior to the injury.
First-round rookie Omarion Hampton will receive a larger volume of the workload moving forward for the Chargers. Hampton has posted 142 yards and a touchdown on 42 attempts. Sunday's game was his best performance yet with 70 yards rushing and a score.
