Howard: Colts knew Tua would 'panic' after 1st read
Indianapolis Colts cornerback Xavien Howard revealed his team's defensive game plan to stop Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa during Indy's 33-8 win Sunday.
"We knew ... he gets the ball out pretty quick, and once we take away his first read, I feel like it's panic mode after that. And it showed yesterday," Howard said Monday, according to ESPN's Stephen Holder.
Howard played for the Dolphins - who drafted Tagovailoa in 2020 - from 2016-23.
Indianapolis dominated Miami from start to finish in Week 1, outgaining the Dolphins in total yards (418-211) and first downs (27-12) while winning the turnover battle (3-0). Tagovailoa completed 14 of 23 attempts for 114 yards and one touchdown against two interceptions. He also lost one fumble, which was recovered by Howard.
Tua’s 51.7 passer rating was the lowest of his career for a game in which he’s attempted at least 10 passes. Just further emphasizes how new #Colts DC Lou Anarumo was able to disrupt him.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel described Sunday as "an embarrassing experience," according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
McDaniel built a top-three offense in Miami two years ago, but the club significantly regressed in 2024, falling to 22nd in points scored.
