Shedeur makes Browns' 53-man roster as QB3 behind Flacco, Gabriel
The Cleveland Browns announced their initial 53-man roster for the 2025 regular season Tuesday, keeping three quarterbacks - including Shedeur Sanders.
Sanders, son of Hall of Fame cornerback Deion, is one of two rookie QBs on the roster along with Dillon Gabriel. Veteran Joe Flacco was recently named the starter.
Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski announced Tuesday that Gabriel is Flacco's immediate backup, adding that Sanders will be available on game days as the team's emergency third quarterback, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
The Browns revamped their depth chart at the position this offseason after Deshaun Watson sustained multiple Achilles injuries that will likely sideline him through 2025. The team placed Watson on the physically unable to perform list Tuesday.
The Browns drafted Gabriel and Sanders in the third and fifth rounds, respectively. Sanders, widely considered one of the class' top quarterback prospects, controversially fell in the draft before being taken at No. 144.
The 23-year-old had ups and downs this preseason. He made his Browns debut with a standout performance against the Carolina Panthers but missed Cleveland's second game due to an oblique injury. Sanders then struggled after entering the team's preseason finale.
Stefanski's outfit acquired passer Kenny Pickett as part of a March trade with the Philadelphia Eagles but traded him to the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday.
