The Denver Broncos selected Oklahoma wide receiver Marvin Mims in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, 63rd overall.

The Broncos landed Mims after making a trade with the Detroit Lions.

Mims is the first pick of Sean Payton as head coach of the Broncos. The Oklahoma stud joins a wide receiver depth chart that also features Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, and Tim Patrick, who didn't play in 2022 after suffering a torn ACL. Jeudy and Sutton were both linked to trade rumors earlier this offseason, but Payton recently said Denver will keep both of them.

The 5-foot-11, 177-pound Mims posted a solid three-year career at Oklahoma and is coming off his best season with the Sooners. The 21-year-old set a career high with 1,083 yards (20.1 per catch) and six touchdowns on 54 receptions in 2022.

Pre-draft profile

Though he's not huge, Mims is bigger than most of his peers who excel in similar areas. While he played both outside and in the slot at Oklahoma, it's unclear if he'll be able to replicate that in the pros. However, his sudden release and footwork off the line of scrimmage leave a lot of optimism that he'll be able to do just that. With some proper position coaching, Mims could be a huge star in the NFL. After all, this is a player who made almost every touch a must-see play. The receiver plays bigger than his size with more contested catch wins than expected, but his true calling card is his athleticism. With 4.38 speed, Mims can push downfield and is very slippery after the catch. In the right system, he should be able to continue his ascension as he adjusts to life in the NFL.
