Mahomes takes 2nd career Super Bowl MVP award after 3 TDs vs. Eagles

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named MVP of Super Bowl LVII after throwing three touchdowns in the 38-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

It's Mahomes' second career Super Bowl MVP award after he earned it three seasons ago following Kansas City's victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

He also becomes the seventh player in NFL history to earn both NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP honors in the same season and the first since Kurt Warner during the 1999 season. League MVPs were 0-8 in the Super Bowl since then.

The star signal-caller entered the game with a high ankle sprain. But despite appearing to tweak the injury late in the first half, Mahomes finished with a 131.8 passer rating, 182 passing yards, and 44 rushing yards. He also led a 12-play drive in the final minutes, with kicker Harrison Butker making the game-winning field goal.

"MV-Pat! You can't say enough about what this guy means to Kansas City and this team," said Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

Mahomes now boasts a Hall of Fame-caliber resume after earning his second career MVP award, second first-team All-Pro selection, and fifth Pro Bowl nod. He led the NFL with 5,250 passing yards and 41 touchdowns this season.

The 27-year-old is also the 13th quarterback to win multiple Super Bowl titles as a starter. The victory over Philadelphia was Mahomes' 11th career playoff victory, tying him for the 12th-most wins among quarterbacks.
