JuJu to return for wild-card game vs. Chiefs
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster announced he will return for Sunday night's wild-card game against the Kansas City Chiefs after making a quick recovery from shoulder surgery.
The Steelers made the move official by activating the wideout from injured reserve later Saturday.
Smith-Schuster was thought to be lost for the season after undergoing surgery in early October. But Pittsburgh surprisingly designated him to return to practice Thursday.
The 25-year-old has been a prominent feature in the slot for the Steelers and is among Ben Roethlisberger's favorite targets. He hauled in a team-high 97 receptions on 128 targets last season and caught 15 passes for 129 yards across five games in 2021 before his injury.
Pittsburgh mainly opted to use wideout Ray-Ray McCloud in the slot while Smith-Schuster was sidelined. McCloud has 39 receptions for 277 yards this season.
Running back Najee Harris is also expected to play after being removed from the injury report Saturday.
Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs could be the final game of Roethlisberger's NFL career should the Steelers lose.
