Steven Nelson agrees to join Eagles on 1-year deal
Free-agent cornerback Steven Nelson has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, the team announced Sunday.
The contract is worth more than $4 million, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Nelson spent the past two seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who released the veteran defensive back in March after permitting him to seek a trade.
The 28-year-old was strong in coverage for the Steelers, allowing only 969 yards and five touchdowns when targeted since 2019, according to PFF. Nelson averaged 58 tackles, nine pass breakups, and two interceptions per 16 games played in Pittsburgh.
A 2015 third-round pick out of Oregon State, Nelson spent his first four NFL campaigns on the Kansas City Chiefs.
Nelson will now join an Eagles secondary who was inconsistent against the pass last year, allowing 237.4 passing yards per game. Opposing quarterbacks posted a passer rating of 102.4 against Philadelphia, the fifth-highest mark in the league in 2020.
The Eagles had also addressed their secondary by signing free-agent safety Anthony Harris. The club also spent a fourth-round pick on corner Zech McPhearson.
